| NAME: Maria Merrick |
JOB TITLE: Head of learning and development. Retail sector |
YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: 10
TODAY'S ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: Minimum 5 GCSEs. Retail experience. Part of a graduate training programme; internal promotion within an organisation. This is how I acheived this position.
BEST AND WORST BITS ABOUT THE JOB: Best: Developing individuals and a team. Sense of satisfaction. Worst: None really. Maybe travelling and long hours.
WHAT I WISH I'D BEEN TOLD BEFORE I STARTED:The lack of understanding by some staff and managers of what training and learning can achieve. This could be frustrating.
HOW DO I SEE THE JOB EVOLVING? More internet-based training programmes. The need for the human face of training will always be required
ANY OTHER COMMENTS: A very fulfilling career with hard work, focus and committment. Many senior roles can be achieved through internal promotion. |

| NAME: Trish Cartwright |
JOB TITLE: Management Information Analyst and Account Manager |
YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: 7 years in the company but 1 year 6 months in this current role
TODAY'S ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: Experience in account management within IT recruitment (but I didn't have this when I joined the company) as I worked my way up from a basic administrator to a MI Analyst/Account Manager
BEST AND WORST BITS ABOUT THE JOB: Highly pressurised environment, but I buzz off this, which in turn pushes you to the next step, fast pace being recruitment, cut-throat, but with all this it's great fun, a young company which has a great social life, work moto - "work hard, play hard" .
WHAT I WISH I'D BEEN TOLD BEFORE I STARTED: That going to Universitiy is not necessarily for everyone and you can be just as successful and earn a good/great living by just working hard and showing that you have the potential to grow within a company. A company loves nothing more than organically growing their employees, by that I mean bringing a young employee in, trainning them up and watching them grow into a senior member or the team/manager! That's from first-hand experience
HOW DO I SEE THE JOB EVOLVING? Well, I have just hired one girl to work with me, we now do all the reporting/ analysing of the company figures to senior members/ account managers/ team leaders/ CEO, director etc. This allows them to predict the next week/month/quarter work of sales. I see my team growing as the company grows. Being a core part of the sales team to help them place more candidates in the IT Sector of Investment Banking.
ANY OTHER COMMENTS: When I was 17 I left sixth form college with my A levels, off to a secretarial college in London, but not knowing really what I wanted to do. By chance I met someone who put my CV forward to a small IT Recruitment firm, which is now the most successful one in London. I got my foot through the door, with no previous working experience (a job in a pub, and a job in Warehouse/Topshop). I worked my way up through the company from a basic administrator to a Sales Support Role, to a Senior Compliance Consultant and finally to become a Account Manager and MI Analyst. I now manage someone and have been given shares in the company, by showing loyalty, hard grafting, dedication and potential. This is my greatest achievement. University wasn't for me, but its not to say its not for you.

| NAME: Jemma Sullivan |
JOB TITLE: Junior Accounts Co-ordinator |
YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: One month.
TODAY'S ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge of Microsoft package, professional manner, GCSEs and A levels, willingness to learn and develop.
BEST AND WORST BITS ABOUT THE JOB: Best - providing valuable reports to management which they depend on for their decision-making, being able to think up new ideas onf how to provide information to key members of staff so it benefits them. Worst - having to get up early in the morning!!!
WHAT I WISH I'D BEEN TOLD BEFORE I STARTED: Everything was explained well before I started. The only thing is getting used to being very tired at the end of the day!
HOW DO I SEE THE JOB EVOLVING? The way that my job evolves is dependent on what I want to do. I envisage my role developing into a more senior position and taking on more responsibility within the company as I prove my competence.
