NAME: Roger Lacey JOB TITLE: Web designer
YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: 8
TODAY'S ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: Anything from a degree in IT or design to short-course qualifications in relevant subjects (HTML, PHP, Dreamweaver, Photoshop etc).
BEST AND WORST BITS ABOUT THE JOB: Best - Developing a project from an idea to a presence online. Worst - The administration of a business (invoicing, chasing payments, writing off a project for a bad debt).
WHAT I WISH I'D BEEN TOLD BEFORE I STARTED:Designing websites is addictive. The temptation is always there to re-design and tinker.
HOW DO I SEE THE JOB EVOLVING? If I knew how the web is going to evolve I'd be a millionaire!
ANY OTHER COMMENTS: You can start up as an independent web designer with just a laptop, a broadband connection and a working knowledge of a few basic programmes. If you want to work for one of the bigger design companies, it's a very competitive market and you will need higher qualifications in things like computing and design.

NAME: Jenny Antoniou JOB TITLE: Head of Advertising Operations
YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: 11
TODAY'S ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: You don't necessarily need a degree as this industry is crying out for new talent. You just need to have a passion and interest in online advertising and the operations behind getting ads live on websites. It helps if you have some technical skills, an interest in HTML, programming languages and an advantage if you are good with numbers and excel, but none of this is essential.
BEST AND WORST BITS ABOUT THE JOB: Like with any job there are always mundane parts but working on the sales floor keeps you motivated and with lively sales banter, there's never a dull moment. The best part of the job is the satisfaction of playing a very important role in making sure advertising appears correctly across your website, especially when that campaign has worked successfully. You also get to trafficking some exciting, innovative ads, which are fully interactive and engaging.
WHAT I WISH I'D BEEN TOLD BEFORE I STARTED: You don't set out to work in Ad Operations, and I fell into this completely by chance. It would be good to know more about the less obvious jobs that are often unheard of.
HOW DO I SEE THE JOB EVOLVING? This industry is evolving at a rapid rate, with technology advancing all the time, the digital media and online advertising industry is an exciting place to be, there are hundreds of related jobs and complanies are looking for young talent. Ad Operations will always be an important part of the advertising industry whether it's in TV, online or mobile.
ANY OTHER COMMENTS: What is Ad Operations? Website publishers' main revenue comes from selling advertising across their website. They have a sales team selling avertising space and an ad operations team that will work alongside the sales team to get these ads live. Sales will send across bookings to Ad Ops who will then set up these campaigns in the 'Ad server'. Ad Ops will chase for the ads from the client or advertising agency and then get these live on the sites. Ad Ops will also need to manage these campaigns to ensure that they delivery the booked quantity of impressions within the time specified.
