NAME: Judith Paul JOB TITLE: Chartered Physiotherapist
YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: 30
TODAY'S ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: Three A Levels, good grades. Varies depending on university or can be done over two years on the back of another completed degree, science-based.
BEST AND WORST BITS ABOUT THE JOB: Best - Lots of job satisfaction, helping people. Very flexible, can work part-time, abroad and in schools. Worst - Time and financial constaints in NHS. Too much paper work.
WHAT I WISH I'D BEEN TOLD BEFORE I STARTED: Pay with in NHS not great! Almost essential to work within the NHS for at least 2-3 years to get a variety of experience before going into sports or private practice.
HOW DO I SEE THE JOB EVOLVING? Very difficult to find jobs in NHS at the moment. Need a few years' NHS experience before you can work privately or abroad.
ANY OTHER COMMENTS: A great career. It is varied and rewarding. Very versatile, fits around family life. Lots of different fields of physiotherapy to suit everyone.

NAME: Caroline Emery JOB TITLE: Health Visitor
YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: 20 years (started very young).
TODAY'S ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: Qualified nurse or midwife
BEST AND WORST BITS ABOUT THE JOB: Working with families over long periods (some families I have been their Health Visitor for 15 years. This can be good and bad). Seeing the support you give make a difference to a child's life!
WHAT I WISH I'D BEEN TOLD BEFORE I STARTED: Inner city health visiting is seen as a way to get the best experience when newly qualified. This is not true!
HOW DO I SEE THE JOB EVOLVING? Developing links in the community, not just in NHS

NAME: Christine Martin JOB TITLE: Manager Aged Care facility in Australia providing centre-based day care and blocks of short term overnight respite.
YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: 16
TODAY'S ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: For the basic entry level as a Community Care Support Worker it is desirable to have Certificate III Aged Care. Management roles usually require one of the following: nursing qualifications, considerable aged care experience, Certificate IV Aged Care or a business management qualification.
BEST AND WORST BITS ABOUT THE JOB: It is very rewarding being able to provide a level of support to an older person that enables them to continue living in the community. Carers also appreciate the opportunity for respite from their caring role. The worst part is you get close to people who are nearing the end of their life.
WHAT I WISH I'D BEEN TOLD BEFORE I STARTED: There have been no surprises.
HOW DO I SEE THE JOB EVOLVING? Generally, more care is taking place in the community as people prefer to stay at home for as long as they can.
ANY OTHER COMMENTS: Aged Care is a very rewarding profession.
